The purpose of the Northwest Rebels site
This site is meant to communicate all about the Northwest Rebels Lacrosse Association. Everything from people, players, events, practices and news about our organization.
My daughter wants to play lacrosse, what are her options
Females have several options depending on the age group. Females 14 or older can play with the women only lacrosse league by completing the registration form and indicating the appropriate age group (Junior or Senior). Females 14 and younger can play with the boys’ league by circling the appropriate age group on the registration form. Generally speaking the physical contact at Midget and above precludes safe mixed gender participation.
I am too old for Junior but too young for Masters - what can I do
Normally, this is where the senior league fills in, however, this age group is difficult to keep involved with lacrosse and there is only one active senior team in HRM at this time. We have dropped our masters age level down to 28 + but the masters league is a non-contact social league rather than a competitive league.
What is the difference between Club, Select and Provincial?
There are three levels of lacrosse in Nova Scotia . Club level has been designed to teach players the fundamentals of the game of lacrosse. Mid-May there are tryouts for the Select teams. In order to play in the Select league players must participate in team tryouts early in the season to evaluate skill levels. Once successfully named to a Select league team, players will be required to pay an additional registration fee to pay for the additional floor time, referees, etc. During the regular Club registration process, any player can indicate a desire to play in the Select league on the registration form and they will be contacted later to arrange attendance at a tryout session. An additional fee of $ 25.00 (non-refundable) will be required to attend a try-out session. Club teams will be balanced to equalize talent. The third level is represented by the NS Provincial teams, where players are taught how to compete at a national level.
How can I stay up to date on events and communications from Northwest?
The majority of the league and scheduling information will be passed along via email and notices put on the home page of this site. On the registration form it is important that you provide an email address that will be checked daily so that we can pass along updates to game times and schedule changes. We are happy to send to as many email addresses you might have, all you need do is indicate them all on the registration form. You can also add your email address to our distribution lists here

My child wants to play as a goalie, but I don’t have any equipment
No problem. We can help there too! The only thing we ask is that Goalie equipment provided by the association must be returned in good condition at the end of the season.
Where do I find lacrosse equipment
Most sporting goods stores will carry some form of lacrosse gear, though fairly limited selection. One of the most experienced lacrosse players in Nova Scotia, Wayne Finck, runs ADANAC LACROSSE at 252 Bedford Highway, Halifax, NS B3M 2K3 902-444-7171. Wayne and his family provide excellent advice on all sorts of lacrosse gear issues and remain a foundation of lacrosse in Nova Scotia . Wayne 's son Dan Finck plays for the Philadelphia Wings of the NLL and Dan will be running a box lacrosse camp in Halifax in early July. You will be provided with more information on this at a later date.
As a parent, I have never played Lacrosse before but want to help out where I can. What can I do
Just about anything you want to! Because lacrosse is enjoying such a rapid growth, there is lots of opportunity at the team, club, association or provincial level to get involved and help out. If you have experience as a coach in another sport and wish to get involved, we will provide you with a course, pair you up with another person who knows the game and provide mentorship and guidance throughout the season. See our Executives section for contacts.
I am a hockey referee can I referee lacrosse
Not right away, but we can provide you with a course and put you on the path to certification to help keep those extra funds coming in. Every year we send one of our referees to the Nationals to reach the next level of certification and with more than 100 lacrosse games a week in HRM, there are lots of opportunities to officiate. Check www.mmll.ca for officiating information.
